Question 2: preferred candidates

2. Which presidential candidate would you prefer to see as President of the United States? Why?

44 comments:

  1. Nicole. (Mexico)
I prefer Jill Stein as the new President of the United States. This is because I prefer her proposals, beliefs and priorities. She tends to focus more on the environment, healthcare and social issues. Three factor that I find very important and necessary. I also believe that a different party could serve to decrease the monopoly of jpthe government. A new and green party could teach the country new and different things. New ideas could emerge and new possibilities could be accepted.

I agree with Nicole about some of the points Jill Stein could offer to our country, but I also have some concerns. Although she proposes all these wonderful things I have to wonder where she would get the money to implement them. I'm not trying to sound like a downer, but America is facing a huge economic recession and we don't need to be taxed at the moment. I think before anything we need to work on the economy and getting people their rightly deserved jobs. Without a stable and flowing economy, we can't take money away from Americans.

    2. I understand John's point thouroughly. He is right when he says that the US needs to focus on their economy. The US is in several debts and maybe Jill Stein can't handle such a country right now. Therefore I do think Obama should have won because, personally, I beleive his principles are better than Romney's. He has had a really succesful past term and he has helped the US in many ways. His health care program, his economical ideas, his way of intervening in other countries and many other of his decisions. Maybe Obama should have won so that he can take the US forward and maybe have a candidate from Jill Stein's party. I really like eir proposals and ideas.

  2. Yasmin(turkey)- I'd prefer Obama as the president because of his relationship with Turkey and his ideas about how to make the U.S a better place to live. In the last two years, Obama has had interest in making good relationships with Turkey, which is something I care about the most as I am from Turkey. Romney however, is believed to be a bad candidate in the eyes of most people, especially people from Turkey because they believe that he will send military forces out to Turkey in case something happens with Syria, which will cause a very big war as Russia would be in the equation as an ally of Syria.

    1. I agree with you. Obama should have a second term. The reason you give is a reason some people need to hear. Our relations with other countries is very important and jeopardizing them would be awful. The president is a big role in creating and maintaining these foreign relationships.
Obama has also started the process of digging us out of a great hole and if Romney would be elected into presidency I believe that the progress would just disappear.

    2. I agree with Alex. I think that if Romney were to be elected he wouldn't make as big of an impact as Obama would. I heard Romney speak a few times and every time he constantly talked about the American people as a number rather than when Obama spoke, he spoke more to us as individuals. I think since Obama is an amazing public speaker it allows us to have great relationships with other countries and right now we can't jeopardize those relationships just like Alex said.

Even though Obama and Romney are more supreme for the United States elections, Jill Stein reflects what I would want in a country more. Obama and Romney are mostly concerned about foreign laws or economy, but Jill Stein seems to care also about social problems and a country to be magnificent, it needs both of these ideas together, not only one side. If I had to choose Romney or Obama I would definitely chose Obama.

  4. I would prefer Obama because in these years he did a number of things that actually helped the US in these bad times of crisis. Electing him would be a "security" because we know how he works and how he wants to make things better. His relations with other countries affected economy in better even if economy is still bad.

    1. I agree with Giorgia. I also would like to see Obama as the next president of the United States. Although I dont necessarily agree with some of the decisions that he has made as the president, I do truly belive he is trying his hardest. However when running a country trying your hardest will only get you so far. But in addition to trying his hardest. Obama also has the best intentions out of any candidate in my mind. Romney is a good option but as a female I feel as if he is looking out for the majority of the white male population and not hte rest of us. Although there is much more ivololved in the election such as what to do about the eceonomy I believe that Obama is hte best option for president

    2. I agree with Giorgia. I thought Obama would be the best choice to be the president because although the economy is still considerably.. not quite good, he did improve our economy and i still see alot of potential in his policies. I believe that Obama can be the one who can significantly improve the economy. He proved to be a good president. He just had to inherit the bad economy from Bush. He is doing a good job of fixing it. and rather than switching it to a new person, we should keep him

I especially care about the social and healthcare issues and that's why I would vote for Jill Stein. Green party supports the use of alternative fuels and provides laws for the environmental protection. Also, abortion shouldn’t be considered as an option and medications should be offered to any people.

Obama should be again the president this year because he made a great improvement in the last for years in doing the president job. He should also be the president because I think that he cares about everybody and everything.

I prefer Barack Obama to become US President because his policies are rational. His social, economic and environment issues are closer to me, and they should have more importance to the government. Furthermore, Obama has many supporters whom he has gotten throughout last 5 years.

    1. I agree with lucy because obama, even though he isn't always the most popular in the states, has a lot of influence in our country and many other countries. I also agree with his enviormental and economic issues and that our governmental system should be more involved

    2. Looks like we have the same point of view. I am completely agree with involving the governmental system. Thank you for answering, Sam.

I would really prefer Obama because of the good things that he's doing for the people in America and for the rest of the world. He's a very nice person and he really wants the best for everyone and he's doing the best to make it become true.

    1. I agree with you and at the same time I would endorse Barack Obama because of his policies especially because it relates with health care, foreign policy, civil rights, environment and many others. He did many things in only four years but they weren't sufficient. Now that he has other 4 years, his plans for America will develop and grow making the country a better place to be and live. We should be really interested in the US life because it's a country of which all the world takes example from. With the guidance of a valuable leader like Barack Obama I’m sure that America will become stronger and an even more civilized country and will certainly have a positive influence on the rest of the world.

It is very interesting to see the different opinions on who would be the best president of the united states for the next term and how there are no representatives for Mitt Romney nor for the Liberal party candidate. And overall I agree with most of the opinions due to the fact that they state they would appreciate seeing Barack Obama back for another term. He has helped our country to "regain consciousness" in many ways and deserves another term in office.

  11. I agree with with Isabel because Obama is attempting to fix the broken links in relationships between other countries. He is also trying to help everyone in America with "Obama care," making people not have to worry about being safe from illnesses and injury. Obama has many points that makes him appear more loved by the majority, on the other hand, Romney has some valid facts but he seems to change his mind a lot making me believe he cannot make up his mind. Obama seems like the right candidate because he is doing his best and his efforts are getting America out of the hole that we dug ourselves in.

    1. I would like to see Gary Johnson be the President of the United States. Gary Johnson will not win this election, nor will the libertarian party have any relevance in it. However, I do believe that the US should not just have an election with two parties, because that's basically all it is and all it ever will be. Personally, I agree with different aspects of liberal views and conservative views. I agree with many of the pro-choice arguments on the liberal side(democratic) and things on the conservative(republican) side such as less government involvement and foreign affairs issues. For example, i believe in the right for women to choose to have an abortion and also in gay marriage. I don't think there should be any absolutes because this country has so much diversity, and that's when i disagree with many of the pro-life only arguments. Gary Johnson, in my opinion, is a good median and not completely on the left nor completely on the right. From what I understand, he believes that people should be the decision maker in their own lives, not the government; which is one of the things i agree with most.

  13. Daniel and Isabel say that Obama is trying to "fix the broken links in relationships with other countries" yet in his four years as being President he has never visited Israel, one of our most valuable allies. Mitt Romney made a point to visit Israel during his campaign because he understands their importance too us. Mitt Romney's financial plan is also a safer route, because he has been in the business world, whereas Obama has not. We need to focus on restoring OUR nations economy, and Mitt Romney is the best candidate to do so.

    1. I agree with Jake's points, Mitt Romney has a much better financial plan than President Obama. However many of Obama's points are valid, he has not shown to us that he can do what he has said as president for the last four years, which leads me to my conclusion of Mitt Romney being the best candidate for this country's president.

    2. Even thought the election is over, I wanted Mitt Romney. Like Jake said, "Mitt Romney made a point to visit Israel during his campaign..." because Romney cares about relations with other nations and understands his allies. Romney also had a nice, safe financial plan, and as Obama has shown in the previous four years, he has done nothing to improve our economy. Obama has fallen short of the number of jobs he promised us, American citizens. I believe that even if Romney did not fully restore our economy, he would have done a better job then Obama.

  14. i would rather see President Obama as president again because i belive that he did a good job in his first term and can do an even better job again. All Romney can see to talk about is how bad President Obama would be for the country and his five point plan. President Obama seems to have more clear and reasonable ways to fix the economy.

    1. I have the same feeling about Romney. He just tried to hang to what Obama did wrong over the last years and not about what he is going to do as the new president. People are not robots and they do mistakes but being a president is not all about finding those mistakes but learning from them.

    2. I agree, I think that Romney is not strong enough. He is looking for weak spots to improve them. He should have his own new improvements.

  15. I would like to see Mitt Romney as the next president. I believe that Romney can restore our economy because of his business roots. I do not belive that Obama and bring back our economy with another four years in office.

  16. I believe that Obama need this last term. he came into an office riddled with problems and he need more time to finish his job. It truly scares me that someone like Romney actually made it this far in this election. He doesn't understand that you cant run a country like a company. His environmental policies are appalling. Under him public land would become nothing more than oilfields all over the country. he is misguiding and doesn't understand the importance of clean energy. He is clearly in the pocket of many big oil companies. Obama understands what needs to be done, he's been there before and he has come out on top. He is the clear choice in this election in my opinion.

  17. I would prefer to see Obama as the president, because his foreign policies are less harsh; this way improving the image of Americans outside of the United States. While in Obama's presidency the diplomats from Brazil and the U.S. have been working on a policy that will eliminate the need of visas for tourists in our countries. If Romney became the president I feel that this policy would not be accepted;therefore, giving Obama an influence over my opinion.

  18. Out of all presidental candidates, Obama is the one who has the ability to be a great president. His words were spoken with care and respect. He established that abortion should be aloud to any women; while, Romney disagreed with the statement. Obama concentrated more on citizens than media and with critical decisions he won over Romney. In my opinion, Obama did a great job over past 2 years and it also showed what he is capable of doing.

  19. If I were an old enough American citizen, I would vote for Barak Obama because I think he best represents my ideas. First of all, president Obama supports abortion. I strongly believe that abortion should be a choice for every woman. Obama is even more against war and harsh interrogation methods for terrorists. I am not fully informed about all of his policies, but, from what I know, I support him.

    1. I strongly agree with Monica because Obama "CARES."
Obama is not just a president who cares about the Economy, War and Peace, besides all the important things he also cares about the social problems and the U.S needs somebody who cares about them as much as somebody who cares about economy.

  20. I would prefer to see Obama as the president of the U.S. for many reasons. I think that he won't do anything stupid. After four years of Obama, I can't see a mistake that he had done. I mean, as a Brazilian citizen, I feel more comfortable to see Obama than Romney as the president. I don't trust Romney. I think he would be a bad president that would only think about what is better for the U.S. I'm not saying that this is wrong, I am just saying how he would make this possible. I could see Romney engaging in more wars and creating bad diplomatic foreign policies. On the other hand, Obama don't make me feel like this. I feel more security with Obama in power. I know that he won't do stupid things with other countries.

  21. I prefer to see Obama as a president of the United States, since his foreign policies, energy and environment programs and education policies are more beneficial and reasonable. Since the United States is very powerful country and it growths with an extreme rate, it is very important to preserve the environment and search for other resources of energy.

    1. I agree with Roman because I believe Obamas foreign policy would not only help the untied states but would also impact the world in a positive way whereas I think Romney would not focus as much time on foreign policy as Obama would

  22. As a citizen of the United States I am for Barack Obama. It is absurd that American citizen go to bordering countries for health care, namely, Mexico and Canada. It is absurd that people scream SOCIALISM around the mention of Universal Healthcare. NEWSFLASH there are a lot of things that are already socialized, namely mail,(more/less)public schools, and maintenance of public infrastructures/ streets. Is that to say we would rather the aesthetic harmony of our roads over the functional harmony of our bodies? I call timeout. We need to reassess our values. Although there are problems with some of the socialized programs like social security and the DMV, that is not to say they cannot be fixed.

  23. I prefer Romney over Obama. Although I do not know much about their policies except for the general viewpoints of both candidates, I feel Obama has had his time in the white house and after 4 years has made little positive change for our country. The economy is lower than when Obama stepped into office and I think our main focus should be the economy right now. Romney was experienced in business and I feel he would have had a great positive impact on our economy in the future. Although Obama seems to show more interest in the people and their happiness, I feel there are greater issues at hand that he does not seem to care for as much as he should. If the nation had given Romney a chance instead of criticizing him and accusing him of only supporting the rich, I believe our nation would be headed in a better direction.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I would have liked Romney to win because he knows how to run business and Obama wants to tax them heavily whch will not help them and force them to layoff workers. I am Democratic on social issues but republican on economic issues and the reason i would vote republican is because the president cannot change social issues, he can in fact have an effect on the economy. social issues are changed by the poeple no matter what party. You really think women would " lose their rights" under a Romney admin. ?? no their rights would remain the same. and that goes for every other organization their rights would not be diminished or lost. Romney has had great experience with small business and he knows how to fix the problem we are in

    1. I agree with John. I prefer Romney over Obama. Obama states many things that seems to to be good for all citizens but what he is doing is making things hard for the middle class, having tax as one example. Middle class is the people who supports the economy in the US, and if he makes the world harder for them, that would make the economy go down, which will make situations worse for everyone. I think that Romney would have made a better president in the sense that he would have done a better job to make the economy better. Obama makes ideal statements but I think that Romney is more realistic and knows what he is doing since he has experienced in business.

  25. I would have wanted to see Romney win, over Obama. I think Romney would have been a better choice for president, because I think he would have been able to help us out of the debt were in. Obama didn't really do much is the past four years, and I don't want to see another 4 years wasted.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I would have wished to have had Romney as the next president of the United States instead of Obama. Obama had his turn as president, and failed to follow through on the numerous promises he made. The economy is significantly worse than it was four years ago when he stepped into office. I think that Romney has enough business experience to truly boost the economy, and get the U.S. out of his current state.

  27. I wanted Obama to win. However, I was honestly not impressed with his campaigne due to the fact that his tax plan is going to affect my family. I just prefered him over Romney, which I know many people feel the same way. I know that Obama hasn't been the perfect president, but that would be impossible because there are always going to be things that the president has yet to fix. With that said, I'd say he has not completely failed as president. Romney, however, came off as a liar to me during his campaigne, and I didn't like how he lets his religious views effect his political views. I believe that it's fine to be religious, but to demand that everyone abide by the laws of his religion is unfair and completely contradicting of what the United States stands for. I would feel very uncomfortable with a former bishop as president, which is why I was more inclined to favor Obama.
